When it comes to drinking games, there are plenty of choices. However, most people are either looking for a two-player drinking game or a game that is suitable for a larger group of players. But what about a three-player game?
Well, the good news is you and your two best friends do have a range of suitable games to choose from! The good thing about many drinking games is that they are very versatile and moreover there are many drinking games apps on iPhone too to enjoy over your next party. While some are designed for a specific number of players, they can still accommodate more or less.
But finding these games or even realizing some can be adapted for three players isn’t common knowledge. Sometimes you might need to alter the rules slightly, but often even this won’t even be necessary. So, let’s count down our top six favorite three-player drinking games.
Best 3 Player Drinking Games
1. King’s Cup
Let’s start our countdown with one of the most popular drinking games, King’s Cup! While this drinking game is usually played with a large group of people, it can be just as much fun with just three players as well.
This means, yes, you get to enjoy drinking a lot more! Some would even argue it improves the game because players won’t need to wait as long for their turn. To play King’s Cup, you’ll need alcohol, a deck of cards, and a large cup.
Player’s take turns picking up a card and then have to carry out actions depending on what card they get. For example, if you pick up an Ace, then every player will take a drink. You can check out our guide to playing King’s Cup here.
But one of the best things about this game is how easy it is to personalize. You can change the rules quickly. It even incorporates elements of other games like Truth or Dare or Never Have I Ever and even pub trivia in some rulesets.
So, if you’re looking for a fun drinking game that is easy to learn and fast-paced, King’s Cup would make a fine choice. Get your favorite alcoholic drinks together and a deck of cards, and you’re ready to go!
2. Never Have I Ever
If you’re looking for a drinking game that can also be a great excuse to gossip, this could be for you. Never Have I Ever is traditionally a party game and a very fun one at that. But with just a few small changes, it can also make a fantastic three-player drinking game.
The basic rules are the same for the most part. The only significant change is that instead of simply answering the question, you must take a drink! For example, let’s say the question is – never have I ever gone skinny dipping.
Simple right? If you have, you drink if you haven’t, you don’t. You can even check out our guide for Never Have I Ever to get a complete lowdown on the rules. For the drinking game version, you don’t even really need to use cards either. You can be a bit more risqué with the question you ask as well.
In fact, that is part of the fun when it comes to playing the drinking game version of Never Have I Ever. This game is an excellent choice for three players as well. Because you can more easily ensure no one takes the game too far and everyone has a good time playing.
Before drinking, get together and set a limit on what can and can’t be asked. If you’re having trouble thinking of questions to ask, then you could always use cards. Just make sure you get the adult cards to make the game more fun!
3. Seven, Eleven, Doubles
This fun dice game goes by many names, including Sloppy Dice and Hero, to name just a few. It can be played with two players but with a few tweaks; it would make an excellent three-player drinking game.
To play, you’ll need four dice split equally amongst two people. The third player will be doing the drinking! To start the game, nominate a player to go first. They should first fill a large glass with alcohol of their choosing and place it in the center of the table.
Then everyone should count to three. On three, the drinker can reach for their drink and start chugging. As soon as they touch the glass, the other two players can begin rolling their dice. The aim is to roll either a 7, 11, or a double before the person drinking finishes and puts down the glass.
If one of the players manages to do this, they can either make the drinker refill the glass and continue drinking. Or make their opponent who was also rolling become the new drinker. Whatever they decide, the round starts again, and players continue rolling their dice.
If no one can roll a 7, 11, or a double before the player drinking finishes, they will choose who starts drinking next. Dice games are very underrated these days, which is a shame because they can be a lot of fun, and they often make great drinking games too.
4. Truth or Dare
Well, I suppose you could call this version of the classic party game Truth or Drink! This game has been played by practically everyone. Children, teenagers, and adults have all likely played a game of Truth or Dare before.
The basic rules are simple player’s take turns to ask each other truth or dare? But this game is incredibly versatile, and with a few minor tweaks to the rules, it makes a great drinking game for three players. Since you’re playing with three people, two players can discuss with each other what they should ask.
Now, if you choose truth, you need to answer honestly. If you choose dare, you either have to carry out the dare set by the other players or forfeit and take a penalty drink. This drink should be much larger than a shot, though, to help encourage people to carry out the dare or risk getting drunk right away!
Truth or dare makes a simple, fast, and most importantly, fun drinking game for three people. The rules are simple, but the added element of penalty drinks adds a whole new level to the gameplay.
5. Flip Cup
Flip Cup is usually the drinking game of choice for large groups of people. The rules are simple, and everyone will likely get drunk pretty quickly. But while it might seem like an odd choice with a few minor changes to the rules, Flip Cup can also be a fun three-player drinking game as well.
There are a few ways you can play Flip Cup with three players, but our favorite is laid out below. You can also check out our Flip Cup and Slap Cup guide here for more information. To begin playing, simply get some plastic cups ready and fill them up.
If you don’t want to risk getting drunk too quickly, then only fill them halfway. Every player should have three cups placed in a row in front of them. Then once everyone is ready, someone should shout go, and the game begins!
Every player will be racing against each other to drink their three drinks. However, as the name says, you also need to flip the cup after finishing each drink. The first player to flip all three of their cups wins the game.
There are numerous different ways you can play Flip Cup as a three-player drinking game. You can use more cups or less, and one fun twist to the game is to fill the cups with different beverages. It’s fast-paced and easy to play, so why not give it a try?
Well, I bet you didn’t expect to see a game like Jenga on this list, did you? Jenga is a game of precision, balance, and patience. So, you can likely guess that playing this while drinking is going to be pretty chaotic.
But that’s all part of the fun! In Jenga, you need to remove blocks from the Jenga tower on your turn. If the tower collapses (even if only partially), then you lose. Check out our in-depth Jenga rules guide for more information.
Now when it’s played as a drinking game, the rules are basically the same. However, before taking your turn and removing a block, you should take a shot. So, as the game goes on, the drunker you’ll get.
This will make it even more challenging to remove blocks from the tower. Jenga as a drinking game is great fun because it flips the game on its head. To move blocks carefully while being drunk will almost always be a laugh.
So, that’s six different drinking games three players will be sure to enjoy! Whether you want a classic drinking game like King’s Cup or something a little more unorthodox like Jenga, there is a game for everyone to enjoy.
