Three Man Dice Drinking Game | Rules & How to Play?

Looking for a fun drinking game and can’t be bothered with playing cards? Then this is the game for you! Also known as The Hat Man, the Three Man Dice drinking game is sure to be fun for everyone.

Below, we’ll look at the rules you need to know if you want to give this classic drinking game a try. But before we do that, let’s take a quick look at how the game works, shall we?

What is The Three Man Dice Drinking Game?

What is The Three Man Dice Drinking Game

Everyone loves a good dice game, don’t they? They might not be as popular these days, but they are often simple to play, easy to set up, and most importantly, fun! So, how does Thee Man Dice work?

You need at least three people to start a game but can play with plenty more. So, if you’re looking for a group drinking game, this can work. It might not be as popular as Beer Pong, but it’s a lot easier to set up.

Once everyone is ready, each player should take a turn rolling the dice. The first player to roll a three will become the “Three Man,” which means they’ll be in charge for now. In some variants of the game, “Three Man” should wear a hat.

This helps them stand out from the rest of the players. Of course, you can ignore this rule if your like; once the “Three Man” has been decided, they will choose who rolls the dice first. They can even choose themselves if they want.

Once the first player rolls, the group or specific players will have to carry out certain actions depending on the dice roll. For example, you might need to drink, do some task/ challenge, or might even become the new “Three Man” for the next round!

There are a lot of different rules you can use when playing Three Man Dice. You can even make your own, like house rules in Monopoly but with more drinking! We’ll go over some of the most popular rule sets below.

What You’ll Need To Play?

To play Three Man Dice, you don’t need much. Of course, you need some dice, and you can wear a hat if you want. Once you’ve got those, all you need is some alcohol, and you’re ready to start playing.

While you might be able to get some dice from a board game, it’s likely better to get some dice, especially for this game. We like these colorful Transparent Dice; you even get a full ten in the set. So, don’t worry, if you lose some you’ll have plenty of spares.

3 Man Dice Drinking Game Rules and Gameplay

The Aim of The Game

Like all good drinking games, the aim is to have fun! There are no winners or losers in this game, and you don’t need to bother keeping score. So, get some friends together and get ready to roll the dice.

The Set-Up

Get everyone together, and if you can, sit in a circle. Then every player should take turns rolling the two dice. The first player to roll a three on either of the dice will become the “Three Man” if you are using a hat, they should then put it on.

The “Three Man” will choose who the first player to roll is. Play continues in a clockwise motion from this player. Now that’s all you need to know about setting a game of Three Man Dice up. Next, let’s look at the basic rules.

The Basic Rules

Each player will roll the two dice, and the numbers that come up will decide what happens next. To help outline this, we have listed the standard rules below. Remember, for most of these numbers you will be adding the two numbers together to come up with your score.

1. Three

If you roll a three, either on one die or have your overall total, then you become the new “Three Man.” Take the hat (if you’re using one), and then take a drink to celebrate. You then get to choose who goes next.

2. Four

Rolling a four means you are the Thumbmaster. This means at any point you can put your thumb down on the table/ playing surface. Every player must race to follow you; the last player to put down their thumb takes a penalty drink.

3. Six

This is a simple one, the player to your left must drink. You can take a drink too if you like.

4. Seven

Like six, the player to your right must take a drink instead. You can take a drink as well.

5. Nine

This is a popular one because everyone drinks!

6. Ten

You take a drink and choose another player to drink with you.

7. Eleven and Twelve

The Three Man must take a drink. You can drink with them if you want.

8. Doubles

Doubles is a special roll; you choose two players and give a die to each of them. The two players roll the dice, and the player who rolls highest will then take an equal number of drinks to their roll. If both players roll the same, they’ll both need to take an equal number of drinks.

Rule Variations

There are many different rule variations to Three Man Dice. One popular variation is to simplify the rules a little. You simply split the numbers into three groups.

1. Two – Five

Everyone takes a drink. If one of your dice was a three, you could choose a new “Three Man” after drinking.

2. Six – Nine

You choose whether men or women must drink. Once again, if one of your dice is a three, you choose a new “Three Man” afterward.

3. Ten – Twelve

Just the “Three Man” drinks.

That is just one of the possible rule variations; feel free to get creative and make up your own if you like. Like the Shrek Movie drinking game, making up your own rules is part of the fun!
