Viper Pool Cues Review: Are They Any Good?

If you’re a passionate Pool player, you will likely want your own cue at some point. It’s almost everyone’s next step once they’ve mastered the basics of the game, like how to hold a cue. But choosing a cue can be a difficult decision. So we’ll be looking at Viper cues to see what they offer in this blog.

Viper is a popular manufacturer of sports supplies and is a brand under the more prominent GLD Products label. But how do they compare to alternative brands like Cuetec Cues and Mcdermott?

Viper Cues: A Brief History

Viper Cues A Brief History

We need to examine GLD Product’s history to learn about Viper, which started life in Milwaukee Tavern, Great Lakes. The idea behind the business began in 1981 to drive more customers to a bar!

GLD Products was formed by a group of five friends and started out producing darts, which was growing in popularity. They were known for taking risks, including being one of the first manufacturers to invest in electronic dart scoreboards.

Years later, they began experimenting with different sports equipment, namely billiard cues. The idea behind the Viper range was to design high-quality cues and make them affordable to the average player.

The Viper line currently has 11 different cue series under its brand, making it incredibly versatile. So, let’s take a more in-depth look at their cues and see how they measure up.

A Look At Viper Cues

Viper cues have become quite popular with professional pool players, with many people finding them to be incredibly accurate. When choosing a cue, its power and accuracy are often the most critical elements.

Many Viper cues are made from Canadian Maple wood, commonly used in many other alternative cues. But for a good reason, this wood is solid and durable, which means a Viper cue will be able to last a good long time with the proper care and storage.

Many of their cues use leather tips to help reduce the risk of miscues. Some people prefer resin tips, but leather certainly does the job. In addition, many of the cues in the Viper range have Irish Linen wraps, which help reduce vibration and provide extra protection to the cue. However, you will find alternative wraps across the Viper line.

You will also likely see stainless steel joints on many Viper brand cues. This, in our opinion, serves to enhance many of the cue’s designs, but you might think differently. Moreover, like many manufacturers, Viper offers various weights for their cues, often ranging from 18 to 21 ounces.

So, that’s the basics covered, and I think it’s fair to say Viper Cues look very promising. There are plenty of choices to check out the complete list of Viper cue series below.

  • Viper Sinister
  • Viper Desperado
  • Viper Revolution
  • Viper Colors
  • Viper Diamond
  • Viper Underground
  • Viper Signature
  • Viper Commercial
  • Viper Elemental
  • Viper Elite
  • Viper Junior

Does looking at the list feel a little overwhelming? Finding the best cue for your needs under the Viper range can undoubtedly be challenging. But each range does manage to be reasonably distinct. For example, the Viper Sinister range is budget-friendly, often featuring colorful and stylish designs. It’s one of the best pool cues for beginners, in our opinion.

While the Desperado and Elite series are better suited for professional players looking to improve their game. Other series like the Revolution is more focused on aesthetics; with many of the cues in this range having a more funky or unusual design.

These cues are more minimalist in design but offer excellent build quality. They are still high-quality Pool cues but likely better suited to the casual player. The Signature range is also worth highlighting as it will probably be the choice for traditionalists.

The Viper Commercial range is arguably the most versatile series offering a wide range of cue sizes, including shorter ones designed for children to use. Speaking of children, the Junior range is designed exclusively for children to use.

So, that’s an outline of everything Viper has to offer regarding their impressive range of Pool cues. However, before we close out our review, let’s take a look at some of Viper’s most popular cues that are available right now.
