Red Flags Game | Rules and How to Play?

Red Flags is a fun party game where you need to plan the perfect date and work to sabotage others simultaneously! It’s a game of debate and tactics and sure to get the party going.

In the game guide below, we’ll outline exactly how to play the Reds Flags game.

What is The Red Flags Game?

Red Flags, also known as Red Flags: The Game of Terrible Dates, is a fun group card game. It can be played with just three people for a fun night in, but as many as ten can play in bigger games. So, how does this game work? Well, to win, you’ll need to have the best date and collect seven cards.

You win cards by appealing to the Judge. Each round, a new player will take the role of the Judge, and they will decide who has the best date. However, things aren’t quite so simple because you can make someone’s date worse by utilizing red flag cards.

There are two types of cards used in the Red Flags game. The red flag cards are negative aspects you can use to make someone’s date more unappealing. They can be small things like saying the date “talks too much” or much bigger like saying the date is “a secret serial killer.”

The other types of cards are the reverse! These are perk cards that add fun/ appealing elements to date. These can be things like saying the date as “great hair” or a “fun personality,” to name just a couple of examples.

Players play perk cards to make their dates more appealing while also using red flags to sabotage each other. The Judge decides which date they want, and the winning player collects a red flag card to mark their point.

There is a significant element of debate in the Red Flags game. You don’t just play your cards and sit back; you have to try and outline why your date is the best. So, don’t be afraid to plead with the Judge or play dirty if you have to. Now you know more about the game, let’s look at what you’ll need to play.

What You’ll Need To Play?

To play this fun card game, you’ll need a Red Flags game set. You can find the game set in most game/ toy shops, but it’s also easy to find online. You’ll receive a rule book, 225 red flag cards, and 175 perk cards with the standard set.

However, you don’t have to stop there; you can expand your game with a variety of different expansion packs. For example, there is a Fairy-tale Set that adds a fantasy twist to your date scenarios.

There is also a Nerdy Game Expansion which adds video games, movies, comics, and TV references to the dates. So, if you feel like adding a new element to the game, try using an expansion pack.

The Aim of The Game

Similar to other games such as Wizard, the aim of the game is to win. However, the way you win is much different. To win, you need to convince the Judge that you are the best and win the red flag cards.

You need to collect seven cards to win the game under the standard rules. However, since this is a party game, the rules are pretty flexible. You can play just one round if you prefer! Now lets’ take a look at how you get the game ready.

The Set-Up

The first thing to do is decide who will be the first Judge. The Judge should first take the red flag and perk card decks and shuffle them well. The Judge changes each round; usually, the player to the immediate left of the first Judge should go next.

They should then place the cards in the center of the table/ playing space. Each player should then take four perk cards and four red flag cards. That’s all you need to do to get the game ready. So, let’s now take a look at how you play.

Playing Red Flags

One of the reasons the Red Flags game became so popular was its simplicity. To the Judge’s left, the player will start by choosing two of their perk cards and laying them down on the table. Next to them, the player will repeat this process until every player has revealed their chosen perk cards.

Once this is done, players can choose a red card to add to the perk cards of the player next to them. Once again, this is done by going left around the table. Think carefully when selecting which red card to use.

After this is done, players can debate with the Judge why their date is the best. The Red Flags game is best played in a tongue-in-cheek manner, so don’t be afraid to get silly or be dramatic; it’s all part of the fun!

When ready, the Judge should raise a hand to silence the other players and announce their decision. The player who has the best date will be awarded one point and take the red card in front of them to mark it.

All players then return their cards to the two decks, and the new Judge reshuffles them. This gameplay pattern repeats until one player wins seven cards or whatever amount you agreed to before playing.

Red Flags – Dating, Debate, and Decisions!

So, that is the Red Flags card game! This fun party game is great fun and an excellent alternative to games like Cards Against Humanity. The dating scenario also makes it a fantastic choice for a bachelorette party. But whenever you play, you’ll be sure to have plenty of fun.
