Drunk Driver Card Game: Rules & Gameplay

Before you start wondering why we’re talking about drunk driving, don’t panic, this is a simple card game, and nobody will be required to get behind the wheel at any point. But you already knew that, of course. I will also point out the dangers of drinking and operating any vehicle.

Now to the game.

In this guide, I will be taking you through the steps of playing the Drunk Driver card game, which, although simple, can be handy in explaining the game to people who aren’t familiar.

So, by the end of this, you’ll be equipped and ready to teach your friends and family how to play Drunk Driver at your next game night.

How to Play Drink Driver Card Game?

Here’s a little bit about the game.

You’ll need to get your hands on a deck of cards like this Bicycle Black Playing Cards pack to play Drunk Driver. You can play with two decks to add an extra twist to the game.

The game can be played with two or more players. However, I prefer playing this game with a larger group. I think it’s so much more fun.

Lastly, grab yourself your favorite beverages. It’s a drinking game, after all.

The Deal

Now that you’ve got everything you need let’s start.

There are two significant figures in Drink Driver; the Driver and the dealer. Everyone else is simply a player. It’s down to you to decide who’s who.

Once you’ve selected your dealer, they must deal six cards to the center of the table, face down, in a row. The rest of the cards are set aside as a stockpile.

The allocated Driver for the game will do most of the drinking. It happens when they pick a face card, so if you’re the Driver, you will aim to get the numbered cards.

Now, let’s play.

Now the cards are on the table; it’s the drivers’ job to individually reveal them to the group. As I mentioned, if you’re the Driver, you want these to be numbered cards between 2 and 10.

However, if you flip over a face card, the rules are as follows:

  • Joker – The whole group, including the Driver and dealer, must finish their drink
  • Jack – The dealer adds a card to the row, and the Driver has a big swig of their drink
  • Queen – The dealer adds two more cards to the row, and the Driver has two chugs of their drink
  • King – Three cards are added, and the Driver takes three drinks
  • Ace – Four cards are added to the row, and the Driver has four drinks

The ace doesn’t have a face, but it still counts as a drinking card.

To Sum Up

As you’ve probably gathered, the Drink Driver card game has no win or loss. However, you could look at it as the person who ends up the most intoxicated being the loser.

Once the first Driver has flipped over all the cards in the row, a new driver and dealer are selected, and the game begins again. Continue like this until everyone has had a go at being in the Driver’s seat.

Let’s remind ourselves that nobody here will drive anything, except maybe their friends up the wall once they’ve finished a few rounds of this game.

The Drunk Driver card game is an excellent way to start a party. It’s simple to learn, easy to play, and requires zero skill except for a strong stomach.
